Driving Lesson – Section 1
Skill Set 1
- Entering and leaving the car safely;
- Seat adjustments, head rest safety and seat belt safety;
- Steering wheel position, adjustment and use (including indicator stalk );
- Explaining the differences and adjustments of the main and side mirrors, as well asblind spots and all round observations needed before moving the car;
- Any other auxiliary controls that might be relevant at the lesson at that time;
- Accelerator foot pedal;
- Foot brake and handbrake and the differences between the two;
- The relationships between clutch and the engine, and the use of the clutch in gearchanging;
- The routine required to move and stop the car (Prepare- Observe- Move);
- The importance of Mirror – Signal – Manoeuvre (Position – Speed – Look );
- Basic left emerge and turn in at junctions.
Skill Set 2
- Refresh of skill set learned previously.
- Procedure when a hazard presents itself on a drive i.e. Parked vehicles
- Basic introduction to pedestrian crossings;
- Basic right turn in and emerge at junctions;
- Process of gear changing;
- Progressive braking;
- Hill start;
- Basic introduction to roundabouts 1st exit or left turn;
Skill Set 3
- Refresh of skill set learnt previously.
- Basic introduction to cross roads ( right and left emerge, straight on),
- Basic reverse in a straight line;
- Meeting other traffic and assessing priority;
- Crossing the path of other traffic, when turning right;
- Straight on (2nd exit) and right (3rd or 4th exit) at roundabouts;
- Emergency stop;
